Job Description

PNNL is recruiting a postdoctoral scientist on research to improve understanding of convection and its large-scale environment. The successful candidate will perform analysis of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) using a combination of remote sensing and in-situ data, reanalysis data, and model simulations to characterize MCSs and their large-scale environment in the tropics and extratropics. Working with PNNL scientists, the candidate will also design and perform numerical experiments to understand the variability and changes of MCSs and the implications to the regional and global water cycle.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with observational data such as satellite, radar, and in-situ data, a strong understanding of convection and its meteorological context, and experience with weather and climate models will be considered favorably during the evaluation.

A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or related subjects is required.
