Post Doc Research Associate - Electrochemistry and Na-Metal Halide Battery

The Energy Processes & Materials Group within the Energy and Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is currently hiring a Postdoc Research Associate for Na-Metal Halide Battery Research & Development. This postdoc position is for a Materials Scientist, Electrochemist, Chemist, or Engineer with experiences in ceramic processing, electrochemistry, electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies, battery materials synthesis and battery assembly. In particular, the main focus of this position is to provide technical support to a growing team of scientists and engineers conducting fundamental and applied research/development in the field of Na-Metal Halide batteries. The candidate will be involved in the fabrication, assembly, and testing of a Na-Metal Halide batteries or modules. The successful candidate should be highly self-motivated and independent on executing the tasks involved in the assigned project. Candidates will also be responsible for the development of the Na-based electrochemical energy storage technology including materials development, device fabrication/testing, and final product delivery. The candidate will work closely with senior research scientists and the project manager. They will also prepare manuscripts for publication, present their work internally and externally at national/international conferences, and develop new ideas for funded research.

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
The candidate must have Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or other related fields within the past five years from an accredited college or university. Prior experience with high temperature energy conversion/storage device, solid-state battery, Na metal battery, Na-ion/Li-ion batteries are preferred. Expertise in the high temperature ceramic processing, solid state synthesis, inorganic/organic synthesis, battery design/testing is desired. Experience in ceramic materials, cell assembly, and electrochemical evaluation skills is a plus. The successful candidate must have demonstrated technical aptitude in a laboratory environment, including electrochemical testing and characterization techniques, constructing experimental setup, operation, and data analysis, as well as a demonstrated ability in technical communication. Self-motivation, good hand-on skill, good writing/oral communication capability and an ability to collaborate effectively in a teaming environment are required.
