Job Description

This position will focus on analysis of complex mixtures of small organic molecules & metabolites as encountered in biological extracts and environmental samples (e.g. soils). The successful candidate will participate in metabolomics research, including sample preparation, NMR experiments (1D 1H, 13C, 2D COSY, HSQC, NOESY, etc), data processing and analysis, and writing up methods and results for publication in technical journals. The position is highly suitable for motivated individuals who would like to gain additional research experience before continuing graduate/professional education or deciding on permanent employment in industry/government/academia.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidate must have a MS (or MSc) degree in chemistry or biochemistry and experience in spectroscopic methods in organic chemistry, especially NMR, and sample preparation (e.g. extraction, buffering, etc.) methods for spectroscopic techniques. The candidate must also have experience with Microsoft Office, including use of Excel spreadsheets. Experience working with databases and statistical analysis methods is highly desirable. The ability to be flexible, to work independently, and to interact with a wide variety of technical and non-technical people is necessary for success in this position.
