The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)’s Buildings & Connected Systems Group is seeking a Post Masters Research Associate to support its research on methods and technology solutions to enhance building performance. The Buildings & Connected Systems Group performs applied research that drives energy and water efficiency, occupant productivity, and resilient operation of buildings and connected systems to provide economic, environmental, security, and societal benefits to the nation.

This Post Masters Research Associate position will provide technical support to a team of scientists and engineers conducting fundamental and applied research and development in the field of building analysis and building analysis tool development. This position will focus on buildings energy research and development and demonstration of building tools.

The candidate must be skilled in computer science, or engineering with an emphasis on computer programing. It is preferred that the candidate have practical experience analyzing building system data and developing tools for building optimization and data processing and visualization. It is also desirable that the candidate have knowledge and experience in building control systems and/or performance optimization. Strong research skills to support research projects and proposal development are required.

This position will be based in PNNL’s regional office in Arlington, VA.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related building systems research field
• Programming skills with Javascript, Python, Matlab, and/or R
• Experience with APIs and cloud computing services
• Strong oral and written communication skills and experience, including authoring peer-reviewed publications, delivering oral presentations, and successful collaborative technical interactions.

3.25 GPA or higher is preferred
