Job Description

The Environmental Dynamics and Simulations group at Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to aid in the development of next generation hybrid FTMS instrumentation and supporting technologies such as non-traditional MS/MS techniques. EMSL, a national scientific user facility and research directorate, at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is supported and stewarded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER). The EMSL User facility is designed to provide innovative and breakthrough experimental and computational science that addresses BER programs.

The candidate will also be responsible for aiding in the development of a FTMS suite, which currently includes a wide range of FTICR and Orbitrap platforms. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the instrumentation along with supporting Users with these capabilities. We have a dynamic, world-class high performance mass spectrometry group and this would be a fantastic opportunity for self-motivated individuals who want to continue learning and developing leading edge technologies and applications. The candidate must work effectively within a pre-eminent research operation in the context of the EMSL User environment that takes advantage of the truly unique infrastructure present within the EMSL.

The candidate must have a record of accomplishment in the development of mass spectrometry instrumentation. Additional expertise in FTICR and Orbitrap instrumentation and methodologies, python computer programing language, tandem mass spectrometry, and proteomics workflows is advantageous. The candidate should possess good oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. The results of the successful candidate's work will be used to generate new intellectual property, peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national conferences, and new research proposals. Maintenance of laboratory equipment, organization, working conditions, and an accurate laboratory notebook are expected in addition to implementation of Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) Operations and security requirements, and directorate/group policies.
