High School Science Programs Student - YWiS - Cyber Security Intern (Summer)
Full/Part Time: Part-Time
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Young Women in Science (YWiS) Program. This summer internship is a research-based educational experience for sophomores, juniors and senior females. The students must have an expressed interest in and potential for educational opportunities and careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).
Bombing Range is a controlled testbed for cyber security research and training. Interns will work on developing virtual machines with varying software and services installed. Intern will work with servers, research best practices, research cyber vulnerabilities, design a cyber training environment, design a malware research environment, and document processes for using the testbed. The intern will work in a small group of interns with staff assistance and guidance.

- Applicants must be a female currently enrolled as a junior or senior in a public or private high school.
- Applicants must be 16 years of age at the time the appointment begins.
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).
Relevant Course Work Desired: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Programming (optional, any language), PC hardware, Networking, any AP science (recommended, not required), and any other STEM courses (especially AP classes)
Computer Skills Desired: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Programming (optional, any language), PC hardware, Networking, Virtual Machines (VMware or VirtualBox), Cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Other Desired Skills: Cyber Security knowledge, Cyber Security competitions (e.g., Cyber Patriot), technical editing or AP English, any other computing or technology skills desirable
